Spending a few days in London then taking a cruise from Southampton. What is the best and reasonable way to travel between the port and London.
Train and taxi to the port. If you buy your ticket early you can get a discount.
Thanks. I'll look into the trains. I think we may be staying near a station.
There is also the National Express bus, from Victoria coach station to Southampton. Less expensive than the train. A taxi will be necessary to the port from either bus station or train station in Southampton.
Thanks. I'll look into this as well. Good options
Where does your cruise go from there? I haven't heard much about the cruises from that port, besides the QEII of course.
Have fun!

Allison: there are all kinds of cruises that leave from Southampton. Some of the common ones are Baltic cruises (although many do not leave the Baltic Sea, some do call at Amsterdam or "London," often meaning Southampton), British Isles cruises (looping around the UK and Ireland), cruises down the Atlantic European coast that stop at various ports in France, Portugal, and Spain, and cruises to the Norwegian coast. Those are in addition to the trans-Atlantic ones you already know about.
Here's a list from Cruise Critic of cruises departing from Southampton; this list will not include those that call there but do not start there. https://www.cruisecritic.com/cruiseto/cruiseitineraries.cfm?depcity=129

Trains to Southampton from London go specifically from London Waterloo station, not just from any station you happen to be staying at. However Waterloo is very easy to get to from anywhere in London via bus or tube or taxi.
Investigate ticket prices at www.nationalrail.co.uk - the cheapest are called Advance tickets, with a capital A, and must be used on the booked train. Next cheapest are Off-Peak, which are a bit more flexible.
However: note that you’ll need to handle your own luggage on and off the train and stow it on overhead or end-of-carriage luggage racks. If you have the usual amount of cruise luggage you may find this difficult.
You’ll still need to get a taxi at the other end, from Southampton Central train station to your cruise port.
Another option is to book a car service door-to-door - I’d recommend getting a quote from a Southampton-based company. West Quay Cars is a well-known Southampton taxi firm that will give you a quote for a London Pick-up.
Year before last we paid 110 GBP to West Quay for a transfer from Gatwick to our hotel in Southampton. If several of you are travelling together and can share the cost, it would be a nice easy way to start the cruise adventure.
