I am arriving via train into St Pancras Station and staying at Ibis near Heathrow. No problem with Hoppa Bus to Terminal 2 to fly out the next day but not quite sure how to get to Ibis from either St Pancras or Kings Cross.
Taxi is very expensive but will take if no other option.
Any suggestions? Pickup service? Tube?
Thanks for any recommendations.
If you can handle it, Piccadilly Line direct from Kings Cross/St Pancras to Heathrow Terminals 2/3
is the easiest, and since you have to connect to get to Elizabeth Line or HEX, probably just about
as fast. More likely the cheapest also. Private car may be a bit faster but more $.
The Hoppa bus is a bit of a ripoff depending on where your hotel is and how much luggage you
have. If you can figure it out, taking a local bus from the central bus terminal between Terminals
2 & 3 will save you the cost of a pint.
Piccadilly line goes from St Pancras to Heathrow, then hoppa bus to hotel.
Although unless your flight is very early indeed I would just stay in Central London.
Personally my suggestion would be Circle Line from St Pancras to Farringdon and then Elizabeth Line to Heathrow. There is step-free lift access to the Circle Line at Kings Cross St Pancras and between the two lines at Farringdon.
I would take the Piccadilly line to Heathrow.
You can see we all have our own opinions on the best way to do this. I am with Philip on this one. Now that we have the Elizabeth Line, it's a much more comfortable journey (especially with luggage), even if you need to take the tube one stop to get there. Taking the Piccadilly line to Heathrow from Kings Cross is very slow, it's something like 18 stops, and it gets very crowded. The Elizabeth Line can get crowded as well but there's more space to absorb people and luggage. It also has the nice feature of being connected to 5G along the whole line so if you want to pass the time by going on your phone that's an option. I would only use the Piccadilly line if I were going to/coming from somewhere in west London, like Hammersmith.
The Hoppa Bus is not a rip off.
It is the price you pay to go direct to/from the terminals (as opposed to the Central Bus Station), actually to the hotel (as opposed to a nearby bus stop) and on a bus specifically designed for luggage.
It will still be cheaper than a local taxi.
But, yes, most if not all the Heathrow hotels are also served by local buses- all of which start up around 4am, many run 24 hours.
The Ibis Heathrow is served by the 81, 105, 111, 222, H98 and N9 buses- stop close by at Harlington Corner.
The N9 is the night bus from Trafalgar Square, the 81 is from Hounslow West tube station to Slough, the H98 from Hounslow West station and Hayes and Harlington station (Elizabeth Line), the 105 (24 hour bus) from Southall station (Elizabeth Line), the 111 (24 hour bus) from Kingston on Thames and Hampton Court, the 222 (24 hour bus) from Hounslow West station and Uxbridge Station (Piccadilly and Metropolitan Lines). All except the 81 go to Heathrow Central Bus Station (for Terminal 2).
The Piccadilly Line has been around a long time and it's trains are looking a bit jaded now. The Elizabeth Line is quite recent, and feels it. A little more expensive but still a lot cheaper than a taxi.
I think I would go for the change at Farringdon option.
