I assume you are routing via Birmingham, not via London.
As the bridge south of Oxford is still under repair so the trains from Oxford are diverted to London Marylebone.
If routing via Birmingham you need to be aware that the line is closed north of Carlisle due to the ongoing work at Carstairs. This means that trains from Birmingham which would usually call at Oxenholme on their way to Glasgow/Edinburgh are terminating at Preston, change there for Oxenholme/Kendal.
If you're staying in Kendal are you being picked up/taking a taxi from Oxenholme, or are you going to Kendal station, 1 stop down the Windermere branch from Oxenholme.
The drill is familiar by now. Train to Worcestershire Parkway from Moreton (no advance fares, so you can buy on the day) [Ticket 1] then buy an advance fare from Worcestershire Parkway to Oxenholme/Kendal.
The fares are good for a Bank Holiday Saturday, but if you want to it is cheaper as of tonight by nearly £15 to buy a ticket from Worcestershire P to Birmingham then another advance ticket from Birmingham onwards, so you have 3 tickets for this journey. Whether that seems too cumbersome is your choice- you may settle for two. I, myself, would prefer the one through ticket in case of problems on the Worc to BHam train- then I am not fretting- but it's not my money!
What kind of a length/difficulty of a hike are you looking for. Do you want it in Kendal or close by. The possibilities are all but endless.
I don't do restaurant recommendations- I think it's too much of a minefield. Really I think any of the pubs in town would suit.
