We are planning on taking the train from London Waterloo Station to Windsor Eton Riverside and when I looked at the National Rail site for tickets it said-"It is not yet known how South West Trains services will be affected by engineering work from Saturday 28 June to 4 July 2014. Please check back nearer the time of travel." I don't know if I should by the tickets because of this or not-any advice?
I think on such a short journey the saving wouldn't he huge buying in advance so hold fire till its clearer
If the train service from Waterloo to Windsor is not running for any reason, there is an alternative from Paddington, with a change at Slough. In fact on that route you arrive at the top of the hill opposite the castle, while Windsor & Eton Riverside is at the bottom of the hill.
and the FGW service from Paddington to Windsor is significantly faster on the normal timetable.
If there is a problem due to engineering work than it would better not to buy ticket in advance. You can keep in touch and get update from railway website.
There is no financial advantage to buying tickets in advance for short journeys like Central London to Windsor.
