How far in advance should we buy train tickets, to Moreton in Marsh from London.
Traveling on May 10 returning May 20.
There are so many sites to chose from to purchase a ticket recommendations?
Thanks
Purchase from GWR which is the train service to Moreton in Marsh.
Should I buy my tickets now?
Jumping on to ask if trainline is good for buying tickets or Gwr is superior?
if you don't mind paying extra when you don't need to, and having a third party to work through if you want to claim under Delay Repay, sure go ahead with Trainline.
If you want to deal with the people who actually run those trains, deal with GWR.
Most locals would buy those tickets a couple of weeks ahead, not 2 months.
What if your plans change or the airline throws a spanner?
Advance tickets may save money, but you are tied to a particular train on a particular day, non refundable or with lots of hoops
Set on the day, time is a little flexible, we will not be coming from the airport.
If you want to book advance (train specific) tickets then do so on the Scotrail website, not the GWR website. You will save about £12 each.
Unlike the Trainline Scotrail do not charge commission (and nor do I) to find the cheapest deal. GWR know that a lot of people go to Moreton-in-Marsh on a spring Saturday so price accordingly.
However Scotrail will split the outward fare at Kingham (the station before Moreton-in-Marsh). So you have two tickets- Paddington to Kingham Advance and Kingham to M-I-M single.
There is no such advantage coming back.
Thank you,
How does an open ended ticket work? Do
I just show up at the station? or do I need a reservation prior?
