I am looking for the best place or web site to book train tickets between England and Scotland. Has anyone heard of a site named "redspottedhanky.com" ? Also, looking for bus travel info.
Thanks,
Lisa
Yes, Red Spotted Hanky is a reseller, so it will add a small % booking fee.
The best option is always to go directly to the company running the trains. For the UK, start at National Rail: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ This is the joint site of all railway companies. When you enter a query it will re-direct you to the correct company site.

I would go north via the east coast route with an overnight stay in York. You may like to consider returning south via the west coast route (via Carlisle). You could make a detour from this route to historic Chester ( 1 night)? & even venture into north Wales.
