train travel between Southampton and Salisbury?

We'll be traveling by train from Southampton Central to Salisbury and then a few days later from Salisbury to Waterloo London. I've successfully booked advance purchase tickets for the Salisbury to London trip, choosing the option to pick up tickets at the Salisbury station. However when I tried to book the Southampton to Salisbury journey, picking up the tickets at the station was not an option and the other two options required a UK address. Will it be risky to wait until we are in Southampton to book tickets for this short journey? Thanks in advance.

Where are you trying to buy this ticket? My test did not have this issue.

Do note that there is no financial advantage to buying ahead on this route, and seats are not reservable.

Just walk into Southampton station on the day and ask for a one way ticket to Salisbury = £9.60 . Trains are roughly every 30 minutes and the journey takes about 30 minutes. (Another destination will appear on the front of the train as it will continue it's journey beyond Salisbury. Electronic signs will tell you which platform).

Marco and James, thank you both for your replies. Trying to purchase the tickets from the South Western Railway site yesterday, Southampton Central wasn't showing up on the list of stations for the "collect from station." After 4 attempts I gave up. Today, I tried one last time and it popped right up. A glitch in the system or in me. 😀 The advance price is several pounds less so I'm going for it!

If you go for the lower priced Advance tickets be sure you take exactly the nominated train - it isn't valid on any other date, time or class.
