Train Travel

When I lived in England in the early 90s, I would by a train ticket to a destination for the day, and get off at the different towns that the train would stop at in route to my final destination, look around at the town, and then hop back on the train later to my final destination. I dont know if it was exactly legal to do at the time, but no one every bothered me for doing it.

I am returning to England for a holiday this summer and was wondering if I could still tour like this.

Thanks.

Yes you can, as long as you buy an off-peak or Anytime ticket. You can’t do that with the cheaper Advance tickets.

you need to be in a direct route between origin and destination, and no backtracking, and as said above no Advance tickets (they require travel on the specific train (date and time and route).
