Train to Cotswolds, picking up a rental car

My wife and are going to travel by train from Glasgow to the Cotswolds in October and would appreciate advice about the best place to get off the train pick up a rental car, and start touring by car for the next 10 days. We have reservations to stay in Bourton on the Water, and are thinking about Cheltenham Spa or Gloucester as a terminus. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you could see what you find in Cheltenham although if my memory is right there aren't any counters at the station. But if you want a decent selection you might really consider Birmingham Airport. All the majors are there. If coming to Birmingham by the Avanti West Coast train, the very next stop after Birmingham New Street is Birmingham International, the stop for the airport. The terminals are linked to the station by a short 90 second ride on a free ground tracked cable car. Hard to get easier, and you are right on the M42 motorway to the Cotswolds via Stratford upon Avon.

Thanks, Nigel. Birmingham Airport sounds like the perfect solution for us. I know the area well from my work in Brum back in the 2000s. We were getting a little worried because Gloucester and Cheltenham looked a little iffy.

We trained to Oxford, spent a night there and got our rental car there for the Cotswolds. We also stayed in Bourton on the Water and loved it.
