Train Tips

My wife and I, both seniors, with be traveling by train from London to Liege, Belgium, via Brussels, on Saturday 9-16-23 at 9am. Then we'll leave Liege for Cologne around 5pm same day. On the 17th in the am, we'll leave Cologne for Boppard, Then on the 19th in the am we'll leave Boppard for Lucerne. Finally, we leave Lucerne for Zurich on the 21st am to fly home. Any ideas on whether any train passes would be worth buying or just buy individual trip train tickets now to save money. Thanks.

you might try sending an email to the Man in Seat 61 to see if he can/will help, or consider using some of the referral links on his page.

there is also a message in the transportation section about a train consultant that someone used.

With a Eurail pass you also need to purchase mandatory seat reservations, which ups the cost. Reservations aren't usually too hard to come by except for Eurostar, which need to be purchased well in advance.

Eurostar only allows a certain number of pass holders on each train, and then on payment of a supplement.
So the first thing to check is availability on your chosen Eurostar train, before committing to Eurail.
It is very easy to check the fares for yourself, you do not need to use a "consultant".
The only other train you would need a mandatory reservation for is the Thalys or ICE from Liege to Koln.
