Train tickets to York

We are considering doing a day trip to York from London. In looking at advance booking for ticket prices, I checked the National Rail site and theTrainline site. The National Rail site’s tickets are considerably cheaper. I wasn’t sure if we can buy tickets from the US through the National Rail site. ( I thought I remembered reading theTrainline site being easier to do). The date would be June 30. Am I missing something with these prices and which is the best way? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can certainly use the NationalRail site. After you select your departure, you will be automatically transferred to the website of the company operating that train. If you have any problem getting the payment to go through, check back here for advice. You might try a second credit card first.

Thanks acraven! Another question, it seems on the national rail site that there is no way to purchase three tickets at the same time. Do I need to do three separate bookings? I didn’t go farther than them redirecting me to the ticket provider So maybe it’s there where I can purchase three?

There is a drop down menu arrow where you select the number of children, adults and any rail cards.

Or use the LNER website.

Going to try the LNER site on the desktop rather than iPad. Having trouble now with acceptance of phone number. Thanks for your help!

Any tips on how to format/add a valid US phone number so it will be acceptable?

Phone number acceptance is usually a matter of formatting. I find it usually works best to just put the numbers in sequence, without brackets ( for the area code) or spaces. Like this:
+12082345678

And they may or may not want the “+” in front of the 1 for the USA country code. Try it both ways.

I not sure I have ever needed to put a phone number when buying a train ticket. Email yes, but phone number? It may be an option but I don’t think it’s essential.

Hurray! Got it to work. Weird, you had to tick box below saying you didn’t want travel journey updates. We’re set with those tickets. $62 round trip/ pp isn’t too bad I hope! Thanks again for replying and trying to help! 😊

I think it was because they are sending the etickets either to the smartphones or by email, but you had to include it, wasn’t optional. I’m such a newbie at this stuff! It’s truly a humbling experience!
