Train or Bus Travel from Yorkshire Dales to Cotswolds

What is your advice on bus or train routes to get from Yorkshire Dales- Settle probably and headed to Moreton-in-marsh. Appreciate your thoughts. Please do not bother to tell us to drive! It won't be happening. Someone that's done this or lives in the area would be helpful. I've done a bit of a search and we can either go through Mancester or Leeds. Which would be more scenic? Thanks

Shelley, ignore the first reply. It is spamming which is against forum guidelines.

If using the trains, be sure to split the tickets to drastically reduce the price. Click the following link and put in for your journey from SET > MIM say in mid January to test things out. Up will come the through ticket price and then the price you could pay if doing splits (even though you travel on the same trains). https://www.traintickets.com/?/

Why would you want to back track from Cheltenham to a station you have already passed through?
You can avoid this by changing at Birmingham New Street
In precovid days for Moreton in Marsh you could have got a direct train to Oxford from Leeds and change there. You have to make additional changes at present
Not sure where London comes into all this
Have a look at National Rail website www.nationalrail.co.uk and also you have a look at www.seat61.com for information on rail travel in UK.

I don’t think there would be much to choose between going via Manchester or via Leeds. It would be how frequent and/or suitable the trains were and, of course, what the best prices were.

The ‘via London’ thing may be best if travelling from Leeds in terms of speed and train frequency. I was discussing the best way to travel by Rail to Swindon from Leeds and my friend, recently moved north from Bath, was vehement that the quickest way was Leeds to London Kings X by LNER, tube to Paddington, then west via GWR. So heading to Moreton in the Marsh might be more convenient via a similar route.

As for National Express buses, after a recent long trip via them, let’s just say I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Not as cheap as I expected either, in fact comparatively expensive, but in our case beggars couldn’t be choosers.

One problem with going via London is that Shelley would need to transfer between stations with luggage.

Fair point wasleys. That said, I think a fair bit of lugging about of luggage changing trains is inevitable whichever route you take.

True, but across platform is probably easier than negotiating the Underground.... Mind you, I try and avoid London at all costs!!!

Thanks everyone. I guess it was a good thing I hadn't been on here for a day or two and whatever SPAM had gotten posted is now gone. Good thoughts. Great suggestions. No one mentioned the scenery difference though. All in all, I'll be booking the quickest. At one point we do have to head into London but not yet. I haven't gotten to that part of my planning yet. We were like Wasley said, trying to avoid it at all costs but it will be inevitable eventually for quickest routes I think.
