I have been trying to access the National Rail web site to get info on traveling from London King's Crossing station to York. There has been a server error for at least 10 days. Any idea what train lines make this route? We arrive at Heathrow at approx 11:30 am , will take the tube to King's Crossing. I think that we should be able to make it to the station by 2 or 2:30. Any suggestions? Thank you Annelle
The train company is LNER and the station name is Kings Cross.
But perhaps you should try a different computer or browser. I have no problems with the National Rail website on my iPad using Safari, or our MacBook using Chrome.
The National Rail site is working fine for me when I've just checked. Perhaps you're throwing a spanner in the works by searching for King's Crossing ; ) It's called Kings Cross.
You don't say what day or date you're arriving. I would suggest that 2.30pm is tight if anticipating an hour for taxiing, immigration and luggage retrieval (if relevant). That's not leaving any room for flight delay and a rapid boarding on the Tube. Personally I would prefer to add another hour cushion. It's not like there's nowhere to while away 30 minutes or so at the station www.kingscross.co.uk/eating-and-drinking.
Grand Central Railway and London North Eastern Railway serve the route with an average of 45 journeys per day.
I've had intermittent problems with the National Rail site. I did buy Advance fare tickets from King's Cross to York - the least expensive option I found for my date in March was Grand Central Railway. When we traveled last summer, we took LNER as it was switching over from Virgin.
Yo don't have enough time between landing, and boarding the train at 2:30.
It may take you two hours to get out of Heathrow, (if your plane lands on time) just to get to the platform for the train to King's Cross.
And you're still within the airport at this point.
Then that train takes an hour into K.C.; then you still have to find out the right platform and what to do to catch your train to York.
I have lived in the UK, travelled there many times, and would give myself at minimum four hours for this, maybe more if I had never been there before.

Yes, take a later train.
thank you all for your input. Greatly appreciated.
Hi Annelle -
The website for British National Rail is:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
Pick from London [All stations] to York
If you are having problem getting to that site, then I suggest you clean out your browser cache.
If you are getting into Heathrow (Terminal 5 I would think), you need to add at least 1.5 hours before you get to the transport which will take you into London.
To get an idea how long it will take you to get from Heathrow to King's Cross, I suggest using the following web site:
www.citymapper.com
Be sure to put in the time that you would be leaving Heathrow, Terminal 5.
(They also have free android and iphone/ipad apps. I would "play" with the website before you play with the app. I used it last fall . . . saved a lot of time.)
Citymapper will suggest several different ways of getting from Heathrow (Terminal 5) to King's Cross, along with the current time requirements, and costs. And a map too!
Enjoy your time in York. Don't forget Evensong at the Minster. And the tickets for the Minster are good for a year. I would suggest the Walking Tour of York which is conducted by the Association of Voluntary Guides. No charge . . . and no contributions are accepted.
