Train London to York / York to Edinburgh

Greetings from US, Indiana,
Will be traveling to UK in September. Will be going from London to York a few days then Edinburgh. Planning to travel by train and have read to purchase tickets in advance.
Several questions regarding tickets. First, what website is best to use to purchase these tickets?
Are there numerous trains per day to choose from?
Suggestions and recommendations appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

LNER operates the trains so why not use their website to see schedules and buy tickets:

Yes, there are numerous trains each day. The above website will show you the availability on your day of travel.

Are you traveling solo or with a partner? If the latter, consider a Two Together rail card (https://www.twotogether-railcard.co.uk/). We did that exact trip last June and the rail card saved us a considerable amount on tickets, so much so, that we splurged on First Class tickets for the Edinburgh to London return leg. As mentioned above, purchase directly from the LNER website. There are several trains a day to each destination.
