We are taking the train from London to Truro and picking up a car there for the rest of our trip through the UK in September. It seems that leaving at 10.00 it is much cheaper. I am confused about the difference between Virgin trains and National. Is there in fact a difference in comfort, or no difference at all. It will be the only time we use the train. You must get tired of train questions but I want to get the booking right as it is an advance ticket
Cheers Christine
"I am confused about the difference between Virgin trains and National."
National rail is simply a website that allows you to search for train times and information, then directs you the relevant trains compaines to buy tickets. National rail does not sell tickets.
Virgin trains are one of several train companies in the UK. They do not run trains between London and Truro, though you can buy tickets for this journey on their website.
Trains between London and Truro are operated by https://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/ - you can book with them or any other train company in the UK, or go via http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ - it doesn't matter who you book with but you will travel with firstgreatwestern.
Hope that's clear!
Very clear thank you. I was unnecessarily complicating things. Thank you for your help. The way forward is easy
A little bit of trivia,
National Rail enquiries is not just any website it is the website of the Association of Train Operating Companies, the trade association of (most of) the companies which run trains in the UK.
It has the most up to date information about cancellations, diversions and engineering works, and the schedules are as good as they get.
They then pop you through to the company to sell you the tickets.
This is why it is fantastic that Brits are willing to hop on this site and help us out. Many thanks.
