Do I need to make reservations for the train from London to Bath? We are flying to London for the tour that starts in Bath. We will be in London for several days before traveling to Bath.
You don't need to reserve, but you can save significant money on the cost if you buy an advance ticket, although this means being tied to a specific service. The super off peak single from Paddington is £31.50 whereas the cheapest advance is £11.10.
Wow, that is a big savings! How far in advance would I have to book to get that kind of results? We are leaving in a month.
The cheapest fares may have already gone as they open up 12 weeks or so in advance. Try looking searching from www.fgw.co.uk to see what is available. Put in the number of tickets you want to ensure they are available for everyone - there are group save arrangements you might also benefit from depending on how many are travelling.
Thank you so much for the information, I am going to start working on it now!
Sounds like you're on the right track. Have a nice trip!
Kathy,
You could also travel that route by National Express Coach (Bus). They're currently showing fares from London Victoria Station to Bath Spa as low as £9 (the trip is as short as 2.5 hours). The Coaches are large and comfortable, and it's a pleasant trip.
