Hello,
I’m going to get tickets fro Portsmouth UK to Salisbury for the morning of Saturday, 11 May. I want to take a tour to Stonehenge & travel to Waterloo Station in the afternoon. What is the “split ticket” idea that I see? Does that allow me to go to Salisbury & later get the train to London? I assumed I would be purchasing a ticket Portsmouth to Salisbury in the morning & another ticket in the afternoon for Waterloo. I’m just confused after seeing split ticket & trying to understand the meaning. Help! Thanks!
Split tickets have nothing to do with this scenario.
No a Portsmouth to Salisbury ticket does not allow travel via Salisbury.
Buy two tickets as first planned.
Portsmouth to Salisbury has no advance fares, so that is £24.40.
Salisbury to Waterloo has advanced fares on timed trains at £9.70
I thought that’s the way it would work, & appreciate you responding ! I just bought two tickets on Trainline for $63.00 … is Trainline a reputable company to get my tickets? I have purchased the one Salisbury to Waterloo yet. Are there other companies that have better rates? Thanks
I’m sorry. I meant to write that I have not purchased my tickets from Salisbury to London yet!
The trainline will charge a commission. Better to buy from South West Trains- the operator.. If their website has issues with US credit cards use LNER - another train operator whose site does work with US cards. Same price.
As you've already bought your tickets from Portsmouth to Salisbury from Trainline you can be sure that it's a reputable company. It's not a train operator it merely sells tickets for all trains and charges commission. Buying direct from the train operators doesn't incur a charge.
