Hi, My husband and I will be travelling in June 2017 visiting Edinburgh for 3 days, then London for 3 days and on to Paris for 5 days. We have never travelled by train before, and I am getting quite confused with all of the train sites??? Could you please let me know the SIMPLEST way to do this. I expect to be travelling during the daytime. Thank you for any help you can offer.
Here's the best place to get information:
Train travel is Europe is easy and wonderful. I far prefer it to flying any of Europe's budget airlines. The sooner you book your tickets, once they become available, the cheaper they will be.
Book your Edinburgh to London tickets here
https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com/
and London to Paris here
that's all you need
Edinburgh to London Kings Cross [not Euston] book via https://www.virgintrains.co.uk and book St. Pancras International to Paris Nord at www.eurostar.com. Virgin Trains can be booked ~12 weeks early (weekend fares can be booked earlier than that, I think) for cheaper fares and Eurostar is 6 months for cheapest fares.
no it's not London Euston it's London Kings Cross
(trains from Edinburgh to Euston are far less frequent and take longer)
I even know this! I don't know why I had Euston on the brain.
A few other points to mention. The train from Ediburgh arrives at London King's Cross, and that's just a short walk from London St. Pancras where the EuroStar departs.
You MUST check-in for the EuroStar at least 30 minutes prior to departure or you won't be going. Keep in mind that you'll have to go through airport style security and clear French Passport control in London, so leave lots of time.
The Man In Seat 61 website provides lots of good information on the subject.
Thank you so much for your help. I bought the Book Man in Seat 61, and have checked out the site. Great help!
