Due to a severe weather warning for up to 8 inches of rain in 36 hours no trains will run on the following routes on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 December-
Carlisle to Whitehaven
Corkickle to Barrow in Furness
Barrow in Furness to Preston
Oxenholme to Windermere
Lancaster to Skipton
Lancaster to Morecambe and Heysham Harbour
Carlisle to Skipton via Ribblehead
No replacement bus services will be provided. Tickets can be used on Tuesday 16 December, or when lines are able to reopen if later.
In addition it is very likely that trains will be unable to run between Preston and Glasgow- they will run for as long as they can, until the tracks flood.
Roads throughout Cumbria are expected to become flooded and impassable, some communities may become isolated and disruption to power supplies is anticipated. Even the M6 motorway may become affected and to become impassable in places (it did at the last rainfall event less than two weeks ago).
UPDATE- Network Rail have now confirmed a line closure between Preston and Carlisle all day Sunday. No trains will call at Lancaster, Oxenholme and Penrith, with no road replacement.
Trains MAY run between Carlisle and Glasgow/Edinburgh - to be confirmed.
Use local buses for Cumbrian stations if they are able to run. They may also be withdrawn eventually.
