Train/bus combo LHR to Bath

Has anyone used the National Express Bus trip to Reading, connecting with the train to Bath and were you happy with it? Does the bus leave from LHR or does one need to go into London? Our flight arrives at 06:30 and although we have plenty of time to make connections, we won’t have rail passes so need to book early to get best rates.

The bus leaves from Heathrow airport. If it went into London, there would be no point in taking the bus, since the trains from Heathrow arrive at Paddington station, which is where the trains to Bath leave from. The first stop for long distance trains is then Reading. The bus is "short cut" to avoid doubling back into central London.

Heathrow is really 3 different airports: "Terminals 2&3", "Terminal 4" and "Terminal 5". The Reading buses stop at "Terminals 2&3" and "Terminal 5", but NOT "Terminal 4". Details here: https://www.firstgroup.com/berkshire-thames-valley/rail-air/

It is cheaper to book the Railair coach directly online. The sweet spot for price is 2-3 months in advance for a return but this doesn't matter for a single.

Thank you, gentlemen. Chris, the link you gave me is great; just what I need. My trip has come up rather suddenly and rather than the months to plan a rather complicated trip that I typically have, I have just weeks to plan this England trip. I didn’t see the bus/train as a short cut but rather as a, hopefully, less expensive option than the train alone on short notice. I do want to kick off my England travels on the right foot!, Again, thanks!

We went on the Rick Steves Best of England In 14 Days tour in April. The tour group instructions were to meet in Bath. Arrived at Heathrow, went to the central bus (coach) station, bought a ticket at the window. Right outside the double glass doors we boarded the bus (coach) to Bath. Comfy, WiFi on board. We arrived in Bath at the bus/coach station, which is right by the train station. This was an easy and relaxing trip with no changes. We had planned this ahead of time, and decided the bus/train route was a pain, so we did the bus all the way. Very interesting scenery and villages along the way. I would do it this way again.
