We will be in the Lake District for 4 nights, starting June 8th, arriving by train and staying in Ambleside. We plan to take tours for 2 of the 3 days we 'll be there - one scenic and perhaps one literary/garden. Any suggestions? Also, do we need to book these tours ahead of time, or can we book when we arrive there? Many thanks.

Mountain Goat Tours has an excellent reputation and has been in operation in the Lakes for years. They offer many tours that should suit your taste and take you to everything you want to see! Since you are going to be there in June I would definitely make a reservation. It can be very busy then and you don't want to be disappointed.
