Hi, Has anyone been on or heard about a tour that targets one or two areas in England with the focus on knitting - providing classes and going to wool knit yarn shops as well as touring an area in England and being with other knitters?
I have googled this topic but do not know anything about the links/tour providers that google provided so I wanted to ask here.
Thanks so much for your help.
Does it have to be England? Shetland (home of fair isle knitting) in Scotland, has a wool week every year. It's fantastic with tons of workshops/classes and tours. Details here
I don’t knit.
I’m allergic to wool.
BUT, BUT, BUT, I would love to go to Shetland Wool Week that SkyeGirl linked to! Everything about it sounds exciting not the least of which is that the knitters on Shetland are trying to keep that aspect of their culture alive.
I agree with the above about Shetland Wool Week. I don't knit (although I sew, hook wool rugs and felt wool) and would love to go to this festival!
Do you have a fiber guild in your area? If so, I would try to see if any of them know about something like this. Our guild's Facebook group is always posting about tour/travel opportunities for various crafters/knitters/sewers, etc.
Hi Skyegirl, Pam, and Mardee, You all are absolutely correct about Shetland Wool Week being the epitome of the knitting world; unfortunately my knitting skills are not up to what I think are needed to really enjoy and gain from the SWW. I have enrolled in their FB page for SWW & bookmarked their URL though; maybe next year I will feel more comfortable about attending. Thanks for your suggestion.
Hi Carol now retired, Thank you for this suggestion. Coincidentally I had the entire website bookmarked. It must be good as most tours are sold out. I'll look into it for 2026.
