Tour in England

Hello,

My husband and I will be traveling by car from York to Oxford in June. We want to stop in Coventry, Stratford, Costwold and Oxford. We have limit time so my question is: between Stratford and Coventry, where should we spend more time and stay for 2 nights? And same question between Oxford and Cotswold. I hear Stratford and Oxford have lots of tourists , so I wonder if would be better to stay in these other towns and just spend the day in more popular cities .

Thank you in advance,

Silvia

They have lots of tourists because there's a lot to see and do there. We found Stratford upon Avon a very nice place to visit, even if you have no interest in Shakespeare. If you stay there overnight, the tourists won't be in your way.

If you want to stop somewhere a little quieter between Coventry and Statford upon Avon, think about Warwick, Kennilworth or Leamington Spa. They are all in easy reach of both places.

Between Oxford and Stratford, there is Banbury, Witney or Woodstock. Alternatively stop in one of the villages in the Cotswolds - there are plenty of attractivde villages to choose from - Charlbury, Burford, Chipping Norton...

I know Stratford and Coventry very well. Coventry was heavily bombed during WWII, and therefore has fewer attractive sights to see. The people are wonderfully friendly.

Stratford is very scenic and enjoyable to spend a day exploring. I would opt to stay here.

Re Oxford and Cotswolds. I think you might do well staying in Oxford and going on day trips to the Cotswolds. Oxford is lovely to walk around during the evening, although the Colleges will be closed to visitors. You could therefore spend the morning in Oxford and then drive to Burford, Stow on the Wold and Upper Slaughter in the afternoon. And return to Oxford in the late afternoon.

I recommend visiting the Cotswolds, staying at Chipping Campden at the Volunteer Inn. They have the best pub in town and a great Indian restaurant. Price is reasonable.
Stratford Upon Avon was wonderful, don't miss it. Also, we did a day trip to Oxford.

Thank you for all the replies.

I didn't understand why Frank II post was reported.... too bad. I liked their info and now I don't have it anymore.

Silvia,

the Webmaster does not allow people to advertise their business, even if they are giving information too. Several of the folks on these forums have a travel related business but they don't talk about it - they just answer questions and supply knowledge.

It is a shame that the person mentioned wanted to advertise.

The webmaster is very strict about any sort of advertising. Victoria's post would have been allowed if she hadn't flagged up the link to her business.
