First of all Thank you ahead of time! I am looking for recommendations for a tour guide to take us (6) to multiple sites within London. Secondly we are looking for a private tour with transportation to Dover and the White Cliffs. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you again!
Research London Walks ( www.walks.com ) Walks are always well done. Small groups. Very informative guides.
You should be aware that you can’t really see the white cliffs in Dover unless you take to the sea, which is pretty difficult. What you want are the Seven Sisters, but they don’t go with a day trip to Dover. Whilst the castle is impressive Dover itself has little to recommend to the tourist.
what were you all expecting or hoping to see in Dover?
Nigel,
We'd like to see the cliffs, the castle and a small English village with lunch at a local historic pub. That's about all. Thanks!
You can pick up a walking tour in London if you must but it is quite easy to get around London yourself even with 5 people in tow. Just research how to use the underground. Depending on where you are staying, Westminster, Parliament, London Eye, and Buckingham Palace are all within walking distance of each other. The Tower and Tower Bridge are further away and will require transportation. From the London Eye, you can get on the Uber ferry and get off at the Tower. Just buy a ticket on the ramp.
Dover would not be my first choice of places to visit but the castle is pretty nice - the town not so much and very busy with channel ferry traffic. As others have mentioned, it is hard to see the Cliffs unless you are out to sea or further along the coast. Personally, I would pick Leeds Castle in Kent and Canterbury over Dover which is doable for a day trip. I am sure there are several companies that do day tours to these places from London.
Here's your Dover and the White Cliffs. It's not a private tour, but this will get the job done.

"We travel down leafy lanes through the Kent countryside, seeing hop fields, farmlands, orchards, oast houses and characterful villages which gives Kent the 'Garden of England' nickname that it is so well known for. We’ll make a photo stop in the beautiful village of Chilham, centred around a square with a traditional English pub, manor house and 15th century church before we continue onward to the White Cliffs of Dover."
For a private tour, you might look at the London Blue Badge Guides website and see if anyone offers this.
It will be about four or five times the cost of the tour above.
