I went to TfL's website earlier to top-up my Oyster card as I'll arrive in London tomorrow afternoon, and the process seems a bit confusing, in that once I indicate the amount to add, the next screen asks me to pick at what station I will be collecting my purchase.
Considering that this is adding value to an existing Oyster card, why do I need to pick anything up?
This is a consequnce of the way Oyster works. The value is stored on the card, not in the database. You need to indicate a station where your credit will be transferred. This is done automatically when you tap in there - you don't have to do anything else at the station.
Marco: thank you. I'll be arriving in Heathrow, I suppose I can pick the station that corresponds to my terminal, since I'll be using the card there anyhow.
I shall do that, and report back on how it works out.
Yes that should work, if it gets into the database in time.
Otherwise if that doesn't work just top up at LHR and your online one should then expire and get recredited.

Worked like a charm. I added ten pounds yesterday to my Oyster card that had a GBP 8.10 balance, when I touched the yellow pad at LHR earlier today the display read 18.10.
So, now we all know.
