I know when you get on the subway you need to tap in and out.
I know when you get in the bus you tap when you go in. But here’s my question, I believe you are allowed to make a transfer within one hour. Do I need to tap in the second bus? How does that work?

You are allowed to do as many bus transfers as you want within the hour, not just one.
You could do 20 or more transfers if you could fit them in.
You just tap on each subsequent bus as normal, and the TfL computer system knows whether you are within that hour or not.
In practice the hour is actually 62 minutes.

Simply, yes, tap each time you get on the bus, the system will figure it out.
