I understand that tipping is fairly minimal in England but what would be appropriate for the driver who picks us up from Heathrow and takes us an hour to Winchester?
nothing , but if he /she helps with bags ,is on time , the car nice and clean etc. than a couple of £'s at the most.
The driver sets a fee which covers fuel, insurance, running costs etc and his time. That fee is all you need to pay. If you're American he might expect a tip because that's what American's are known for, if you're British he'll know not to expect a tip.
It's your money, do want you want with it. He's not going to turn down extra money but don't feel obliged to.
Tipping is not obligatory so give whatever you believe is appropriate for the level of service you have received.
I don't get tipped when I work directly helping the great traveling public.
I don't tip.
I'd give him or her a smile and a thank you. If they had exceeded a safe speed they wouldn't get the smile. If they had driven poorly or got lost they wouldn't get the thank you.
Thank you everyone!
