I see online that Tintagel Castle is closed while they construct a foot bridge. They expect to open 'spring of 2019". We are thinking of joining the Villages of Southern England in May 2019, but would choose a different tour if Tintagel is still closed. Dos anyone know the expected date the castle will reopen?
I would call the RS office and ask this question, they are very helpful. Before the RS Turkey tour, I called them and asked about the Blue Mosque because I had heard it was under renovation. I was told sections of it are open and visitors could go in. As it worked out, we went in and there were a large number of tourists there. You really couldn't see much.
My wife and I took that tour this past spring and I would say Tintagel was a minor event/memory of our trip. I do not know what they would substitute but to me Tintagel would not be a big loss.
Do call the office and see what they have to say. Often, when one planned tour activity is cancelled for whatever reason, a new and sometimes much more significant and awesome visit, is substituted. This has happened on tours I have been on more than once and I have never been disappointed. They may already have an adjustment in mind and as Judy B says, the office staff is always helpful!
I’d agree with Bob. I thought this was going to be neater than it was...
No way would this closure keep me from going on this tour!!

This is a classic example of why recommendations are so subjective. I loved Tintagel but it depends on what your expectations are. If you're expecting a big old castle then yes, you're going to be disappointed, much of it's allure relies on your imagination but the location and views are superb.
I love the castle, but not the village!
