We’re flying in to Heathrow from Venice with a 1:00 pm arrival time. We only have two hours to board our connection flight home to CA. Our arrival and departure are both in Terminal 5 and we have access to Fast Track. Does anyone have experience with making it through security etc? We are a bit concerned we’ll miss our flight home.
We went thru Heathrow yesterday midday with 2.5 hours between connections and had plenty of time to shop and go to the British Airways lounge. You don't have to remove your liquids from your suitcase anymore. All connections were in Terminal 5. Relax and have a great trip!
I find security at Heathrow a little variable, but rarely have I spent more than a couple of minutes with fast track. Assuming no issues with your inbound flight it should be fine.
Make sure you follow the Flight Connections signs. You will be ushered to a separate area for security. Look for the Fast Track sign.
It's fairly quick.
Also keep an eye out for your departure gate. T5 has the main terminal plus two additonal Satellite buildings. There is an underground tram between the buildings.
The assumption is that you are through ticketed with any checked bags going all the way. If you are not through ticketed but only have carry-on bags you can still do airside transfers, just stop at the desk which issues boarding cards for the onward flight. Airside transfer routes have large PURPLE signs, follow these not the crowds. Problems occur when people have checked bags but these are not checked all the way through from the origin to destination, then you have to go through immigration and start the second leg from scratch.
