Ticket to Ride London game

I will be taking my grandson and granddaughter to London in 2025, and was thinking about getting the Ticket to Ride London game for them this Christmas. I thought it might be a nice way to familiarize them with the city before we get there.

We all love the Ticket to Ride games and have 3 or 4 of them. But I wasn’t sure about this one as it’s a city rather than a series of countries. So I was wondering if anyone out there has played this particular game and if you think it’s worth getting.

I love playing Ticket to Ride with my grandchildren! And their parents. But I haven’t played the London edition. It must involve Tube journeys? It would be a fun prelude to the trip.

I think it's a great idea, though I haven't seen the London version.

For many years when the kids were younger, our tradition was to play Rail Baron over the course of several Christmas days. In later years we played the first (?)Ticket to Ride version. It moves a lot faster than the old Rail Baron. Hmm,
We'll have a few days together this Christmas. Maybe we'll have to take one of those games for old times' sake. Our kids are all in the 30s (well, one turns 40 next year), but it might be fun. Providing the mountain pass cooperates.

I'd never heard of Ticket To Ride before. Looks interesting.

Like many people my age in the UK, I grew up playing Monopoly, which of course was the London edition. It's still fun for me when I go to places that I learned from the Monopoly board as a child. Maybe they'd like that too?

Thanks! I went ahead and ordered it. I think the kids will love it!

Gerry, Ticket to Ride is loads of fun. Whole families can play together. The idea is to create train routes across the county, with the goal of getting as many complete routes that you can. I've been playing it for years (started with the US version, and now we have Europe, a version for young kids and Scandinavia) and never get tired of it.

Hey mardee, thanks for the suggestion! I just ordered it for us to play at Christmas, too! 😊
I didn’t know they had other versions; it’s been a hot minute since we all played the original version. Fun game! Can’t wait to play the London version!

That's great, Mustlovedogs! I feel the same! Ostensibly it's for them, but I can't wait to play it, too!

So true, Gerry!!!

ETA: Just saw your post about Monopoly. We all love Monopoly, but don't play it as often as it takes longer. We won't be going till 2025, so maybe the London Monopoly could be an option for next Christmas. 😊

For anyone interested, Walmart currently has a promotion going on, buy the original TTR game and get the TTR London version free.

This sounds like such fun! My oldest great-nephew is 4 so I will get the younger version for him next Christmas! I love this....but I am a geography nut and want them to be too!

Thanks for posting this! I can't believe I've started bookmarks for Christmas 2024 when 2023 hasn't happened yet! hahaha....

SIL and I were just at our Mall and stopped into a game store. They had these games in stock there so I was able to look at them - the regular one, the beginner one plus Amsterdam, Paris, New York and London!

Apparently the London version uses a nostalgic 1970’s London and the iconic red double-decker buses, not the Tube.

Lola, that's why I like it as I think it gives a better overview of London. The one I ordered is arriving today with plenty of time for Christmas!

Pam, that's neat that you were able to see them! The games are so much fun!. I first started playing Ticket to Ride over 15 years ago (the Europe version), then bought the US one, then the Nordic game for my son-in-law, whose family comes from Norway. A couple of years ago we got the junior version so that the youngest could play. It's so easy to get caught up in it!

I would take issue with whoever designed the 1970s cover image of the Ticket to Ride game.

Lennon left in 1971 and is more closely associated with New York in the 70s, and if the other couple are the original Avengers, that series ended in 1969. If you want the 1970s, then it's Bowie, the Sex Pistols and Fawlty Towers. 😎
