Indeed, Nigel. 🎺
Watching the proceedngs on CNN....
Question for you? The King announced that Prince William has been named Prince of Wales. No surprise there but will there need to be an investiture ceremony to make that official, as there was for his father?
2nd question: P. William's children were to go by the surname of Cambridge at their school. Does that surname now change to Wales?
q1 - dunno but probs
q2 - dunno but probs
everything slowly and yet with the speed of lightning, happening
Now the members of both Houses of Parliament will take their oaths.
Thank you!
Mardee, maybe William was named Prince of Wales now because he's 40-Charles was much younger.
Oops, I was trying to edit my post and accidentally deleted it. Rats. At any rate, I commented on the fact that King Charles named William Prince of Wales much sooner than Charles received the title.
But as Cala pointed out, William is a lot older than Charles was and if my math serves me right, Charles was 21 when he received the title. Thanks for pointing that out, Cala!
I believe the King was named Prince of Wales at age nine, and formally invested at age 20.
yes, he was 20.
born November 14, 1948
invested 1 July 1969
20 years, 7 months, 18 days
Sorry Mardee. I see that both some broadcasters here and in the US are reporting 21. I guess that they are rounding up.
The oldest heir (son in this case) is traditionally Prince of Wales. That's why. But not automatic - regardless of tradition it has to be given. Traditionally.
Nigel, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you're a royalist.
Let's hope that there are no more dodgy suitcases of cash from dodgy leaders of a human rights abusing nation.
Perhaps Periscope and JC could save their unpleasant attempts at humour for Twitter. This isn't the forum for such failing "satire".
Has there ever been a Princess of Wales, other than by marriage? I don't think Elizabeth or Victoria were. I think when Charles became Prince of Wales the job had been vacant since 1936, when his great uncle became king and then abdicated. William couldn't have the job until his father vacated it on becoming king a few days ago.
These next months are going to be eye-opening for Americans who may be skeptical of royalty but yearn for any kind of human symbol of national unity.

No attempt at humour or satire Nick, just plain old facts.
