If you had a teenager and lived in the UK, what are some items you would want your American family/friends to bring when they come for a visit? My mom and sister have asked me about what they might take to my goddaughter (she's 18) when we see her during our trip to London. I wanted to see what ideas others might come up with before I ask her. I plan on taking some Georgia peanuts for her to carry back home to her Grandfather since he won't be coming down to London with her during our visit.
This is a hard one. What is your goddaughter into? When we were in California with my now 20 year old daughter when she was 18 I think I saw the inside of every make up shop going! At 18 they mainly want money to spend themselves!
Actually that’s a good point Emma. American sweets and snacks are a good idea. Whenever we travel abroad the local supermarket is one of our first ports of call as my teenagers love seeing what’s different and stock up on the weird and wonderful to try! That way you also don’t have to worry about buying ‘the right’ thing.
My 13 and 10 year old wouldn't want anything brought back! I think they've been to the US enough times to satisfy their curiosity with the lurid cereals and chocolate/sweets and decided that they're better off with what they've got here. Besides, most supermarkets now have a couple of shelves dedicated to the more popular American produce so you can buy Twinkies, Reeses, Lucky Charms etc.
I really don't know what reasonably inexpensive item an 18 year old girl would want from the US.
If it was me I'd ask for some Lawry's seasoned salt but I'm sure that isn't even remotely on her radar!
Hi Emma, I like The Body Shop items, I think they are much better then Bath and Body Works. I think they’re much better quality. But, everyone likes different things, which makes the world go around.
Robin, the Body Shop already has quite a few locations throughout England.
My daughter's UK girlfriends used to beg for her to bring Bath & Body lotion back when she came home for the holidays. So, I second Emma's suggestion.
Thank you everyone! I wanted to surprise her with something but since my daughter is only 6 I wasn't sure what to get. I'll see about the Bath and Body stuff.
CJean, oh I know that The Body Shop has lots of locations in the UK, especially since it started there. I was just saying that IMO that their items are much better then Bath and Body Works.
Shout out to the Lawry’s reference. My Philly-born mother kept that in her seasonings cupboard and put it to good use. Sadly, she was too adept at turning a hamburger patty to hockey puck status in cast iron skillet over an electric burner. Otherwise an exceptional cook.
