This came as a shock

Just listened Rick's latest podcast . . . the segment on the Scottish military's support for the Crown reminded me of the time way beck when I went to the Imperial War Museum or some other military museum in London, that had a number of dioramas of the various wars England/the UK has been involved in over the years. In the one for the American Revolution, George Washington was identified as the "enemy commander." I had never seen that before; but of course, from their perspective, that's just what he was.

Wikipedia comes to the rescue of amateur historians. Its detailed history of Washington stresses that he recorded long service in the British colonial armies but did not receive a hoped-for commission in the regular (British) army. His record suggests substantial success but also one surrender where he was taken captive by the French/Indian forces.
