We just booked a stay on-line at a hotel in the Cotswolds. I logged on to the hotel's website, did the transaction but was surprised to get a receipt from Booking.com., as up until that point I was booking directly with the hotel.
Is this common?

If it's a small hotel, sometimes they just don't handle bookings on their own.
Sometimes, one is not really on the property's own website. It can be confusing.
At least, that's my experience. Have a great trip!
I think I would send a confirmation email to the hotel, just to be safe.
Totally agree with contacting the hotel and be sure it is their website. There are so many scams out there pretending to be part of the hotel itself. Just be aware.
The costs of running their own online booking engine wouldn’t be worth it for a small hotel. This is a way for them to offer online booking without any of the hassle.
Thanks. all, for your input.
We logged on to the Cotswold hotel's website and walked through the reservation process again just to see if we neglected to notice mention of Booking.com. There was nothing (until the payment confirmation page) indicating Booking.com was the agent. Having had a bad experience with Booking.com in the past, we never would have considered using them if we'd known upfront.
We ended up cancelling our reservation - which, within an hour of making it, Booking.com already charged our credit card. Booking.com states a refund will be forthcoming in up to two weeks.
This isn't right...
