I will be spending one day in Cheltenham before catching a train to Wales the next morning. Any ideas of things that I can do on foot? I don't want to rent a car for one day. Also, any B&B suggestions that might be near the train station? Thank you!
If you are fortunate to arrive on a race day you could find a way to the race course Nd watch:

Thank you! I will be there on Friday, June 16. There is no race that day.
Cheltenham is delightful town, with excellent regency architecture. See the local guide: http://www.visitcheltenham.com/. By comparison, Gloucester has a superb cathedral and an interesting dockyard, but a pretty grim city centre. The most attractive town in the vicinity is probably Tewkesbury, which has a splendid high street, and an beautiful abbey very similar to Gloucester Cathedral. The Abbey, by the way, includes a memorial to Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for president of the USA, who lived and died nearby.
You could take a steam train from the Racecourse.
You could go to Pittville Park and take the waters.
You could take a bus over Cleeve Hill to Winchcombe, get out in one direction and walk up past the golf course. Mind the sheep. If there is a breeze at the base tie your hat on to withstand the gale at the top. Drink in the views.
Have a walk on the Promenade.
Enjoy the excellent art museum.
Climb the Devil's Chimney in Leckhampton.
Enjoy Regency Architecture.
Enjoy the town where I grew up.
Keith wins the prize for understatement. Whoever drew up the one way scheme must have had a bad nightmare the night before. ... Then again, Bristol could challenge.....
Nigel is referring to this steam railway.http://www.gwsr.com
Not sure if they will have the line open to Broadway when you visit. If they do, Broadway is a lovely cotswold village/town. However, expect a walk of about 20 minutes from the station if it is open.
On the line between Cheltenham and Cardiff is Chepstow. This has a castle. You may like to take a local bus up the Wye Valley to Tintern. Welsh bus times here:>https://www.traveline.cymru

I've stayed at Hotel Du Vin and the George hotel. Both a fine and very near the downtown area. Personally, I don't think Cheltenham has much to offer but walking around town is relaxing.
I second Nigel on Cleeve Hill........or possibly bus to Broadway and climb up to Broadway Tower.
