Mark Roydan? tried to break the glass at the Salisbury Cathedral today, but was thwarted by thick glass and apprehended just outside the cathedral. I can’t believe how brazen these thiefs are becoming! So glad he got caught!
Wow, thank goodness that he failed. Was the culprit mentally ill or just a criminal?
Incident took place in Oct 2018
He is just now being convicted and awaiting sentencing
Hope they throw the magna book at him.
"Mark Roydan? tried to break the glass at the Salisbury Cathedral today,"
It happened a year and a half ago.
Before everyone starts making sweeping statements about brazen thieves and throwing books at them maybe read a bit more than the headline! The gentleman involved suffers from brain damage requiring a carer. His thought processes are definitely impaired having an impact on his logic and behaviour. Hopefully he will receive the help that he obviously needs
"Hope they throw the magna book at him."
I would say that was a joke!!
As far as getting the help he needs, from the BBC report: "He had 23 previous convictions covering 51 offences, including theft and criminal damage, the court heard." I doubt it very much.
Yes I also doubt he will get the right help, or even if he is helpable. Like all of us, I don't know the background but a custodial sentence doesn't sound like a great idea for someone in his circumstances.
"Custodial sentence" sounds like it could be locked up in psychiatric institution. I am not up on British legalese.
Reports suggest that his motivation may have been rooted in "freeman on the land" conspiracy theory (think US "sovereign citizens", but even wilder).
