Theatre tickets last minute? (and Jan 1 arrival)

We are going to do a quick trip to London arriving Jan 1. We will leave on the 6th.

Where or how can we get last minute theatre tickets? I heard about that last minute place in Leicester Square. Is that it? I tried looked at Time Out but all the links failed when actually trying to book.

And am I dreaming to think I might be able to see The Book of Mormon?

Anything I need to know about Jan 1 in London?

Thanks much!

The Book of Mormon is playing at the Prince of Wales Theatre, go directly to the theatre in the morning they usually have tickets there.

We were in London in July and saw "A Comedy About A Bank Robbery". It was really hilarious. If it's still playing and you have time, go see it. It's at the Criterion Theatre at Picadilly Circus. We got tickets in the late morning at the box office for a 3 o'clock (Sunday) matinee.

It is pretty unlikely that discounted tickets to Book of Mormon will be available and if you want to see it, I'd recommend that you buy in advance online through the agent for the official box office:

The TKTS site will show what is available at the Leicester Square booth over the next couple of days. This will give you an idea of what you might find at a discount.

It works the same as in New York. If the show is not being pushed or discounted then tickets will not be available at the discount outlet. Have to go directly to the theater.

I have had better luck going to the theater as soon as they open - usually before noon. They always have tickets for that evening performance or even matinee.

Book asap online with the theatre direct if you know what show you want to see, as you risk it selling out if you wait until the day of the performance. Who wants to spend hours trailing across London late morning to get tickets when you can book in advance? You probably have better things to do with your time.

Go to theatremonkey.com where you'll find a wealth of information, including tips on where to get tickets. . . links to pretty much all the other useful sites.

Forgot to add - I got tickets to Book of Mormon. Matinee. Not a deal - but I got them. Now I think I will double up and look for a show that evening as long as I am there.

Thanks, again.

If you like Playwright/actor Sam Shepard's work then see Ed Harris and Amy Madigan in Buried Child at the intimate Trafalgar Square theatre.

Saw it on 12/23 and I'm still thinking about it.

Sat in the Stalls in row J seat 16. Excellent POV. Empty seats to my left and right and a few in the very last row. Pre ordered mine and it was waiting at the box office when I arrived at 7pm.

If you're thinking about seeing more then one show, be aware of what nights they are "dark". We only had two nights last summer and miscalculated. We saw "Kinky Boots" and loved it.

If you go to last-minute shop, be sure it's the official outlet in the square rather than resellers shops on adjacent streets. One tip about choice: Sometimes there are front-row seats available. Be very cautious since the front rows in some of the theatres give the occupant a fine view of the performers' kneecaps. Advice from Theatremonkey will be valuable.
