The Yorkshire Dales or Moors, but in October?

I'm planning a one-week stay in York for the second week of October and weighing the pros and cons of a day trip to Harrogate or a mountain-goat.com tour to the Dales or Moors. Obviously, two completely different animals. Setting aside the possibility of chilly rain, are either worth the effort at that time of year? All the photos of both taken in the spring/summer. Is autumn brown and dreary? Second question: If I go with Harrogate, has anyone enjoyed the Turkish Baths there?

In autumn you will get the autumn colours. Leaves will be changing colour and bracken on hillsides will be golden. The lower sun and light intensity is very different too and much better for photographs. It will also be a lot quieter as kids will be in school as it nis before the half term holiday.

It is a long time since I spent time in Harrogate and I can't comment on the Turkish Baths. The Mountain Goat trip is definitley wiorth thinking about.

By the way the Turkish Baths website is out of date-they are now only 1 of 6 left (rather than 7) as Carlisle Turkish Baths has now closed, about 3 years ago.

My first trip to England (and the Yorkshire moors) was many years ago in late September and early October, and I still remember the beautiful vistas on the moors. It was so beautiful and I found myself stopping every so often just to gaze at the gorgeous countryside. In a way, I enjoyed it more than this year, when I spent time on the moors in spring. The green is gorgeous, but there was something about those fall colors that was so appealing. Plus there was still a lot of heather blooming when I was there. It was in the last stages, but still beautiful.

Thanks for the info on the fall in the Dales and Moors. If the fall colors will still be brilliant, my husband will want do that. However, are all the Turkish Baths closed? I was looking at turkishbathsharrogate dot co uk and it looks like it's still up and running.

The Harrogate Baths is still there and functioning. I just happen to know about Carlisle as it is local to me. Presumably the other five round the country are still there.

As a local I always intended to get in to Carlisle, never did (because there is always tomorrow) and they closed very suddenly, so that was that. An object lesson.

I ran out of time for the Baths when I was staying in Harrogate.
