The last time I was in London, I used an Oyster card for the Tube. Can I use Apple Pay just as easily and for the same price as an Oyster Card?
Tap and pay works fine with Apple Pay and a host of other contactless options, same fare and caps as an Oyster Card. Just use the same payment mechanism to both tap in and out. And it's actually slightly less expensive because you don't have to pay the nonrefundable fee (7 pounds) for a physical Oyster Card.
Yes you can! It's much easier and you don't have to worry about topping it up.
Thank you!
I would suggest that you set up Apple transit express. With it set up there is no need to unlock your phone, open the wallet app and enable payment. Just tap and go like a oyster or contactless credit card.
The non refundable fee doesn't matter if the OP already has an Oyster Card.
I thought that, Stuart, but considered that it sounded like perhaps that Oyster was no longer available...
It may be worth pointing out that Oysters never die, well rarely, and old ones can have any funds on them added to easily at a machine.
Rocket, I wasn’t aware of Apple Wallet transit setting. Thanks. I just set it up.
For everyone else, go to settings within apple wallet to turn transit mode on.
And Google Wallet has a similar setting - under verification settings, switch off 'verification required' under public transport. Although I imagine a lot of people have already done this for bus/train at home.
