Nymans

Kew, although there are a lot of not-flowers, too.

St Pauls Cathedral.

Roof garden in Kensington.

oh, and Nymans again.

Wisley RHS.

Regents Park, in spots.

Further out - you don't define "In/Around" - if you have a car, the best in the world at Hidcote, and Sissinghurst is no slouch.

One extremely long border at Hampton Court Palace.

Not a garden, but a visit to Columbia Road flower market (Sunday morning only) is usually interesting. It’s near Brick Lane in the City.

Other gardens include:

Chelsea Physic garden

Hampton Court

Syon House

Kew

St. James Park is usually very nicely planted with flowers. And there is a rose garden in Hyde Park. Combine them for a nice walk.

We were at Kew last week and the flowers still looked good. They keep em well watered. The lawns on the other hand, yikes...and don’t forget the greenhouses, which are superb...and the rose garden was lovely. The place is VAST and we did about 2/3rds of it, spending about 5 hrs there. (We did visit it some years back, so we just didn’t revisit some of the spots we’d seen before). And they have the BEST souvenirs/gift shop.

Thank you, everybody, for your suggestions and information. I think Kew sounds like a good bet, considering the hot dry weather, since they are watering the flowers and have the greenhouses. I will make that suggestion to my young traveler. It must be so hard for you Brits, in the last couple of years, to have all this hot dry weather and not be prepared ... without air conditioning in most of your buildings. I live in the South (upper) here in the US, and it would be miserable here without A/C in the summer (and a lot of the Spring and Fall sometimes) so I feel for you. Thanks again for your help, and I will share all your information with my young traveler.

There was a very hot spell in June last year but the rest was more variable. 1995 was drier than 1976 although the first half of this year beats both.

The rose garden in Hyde Park was gorgeous last month.
