The Official British Tourism Website.

I really do wonder how many of you planning to visit Britain, actually check out the official government tourism site? I have put the link below. Feel free to comment as to whether or not it is helpful or not and whether you would have consulted it had I not brought this to your attention.

England, Wales & Scotland also have separate sites - which I have listed below but don’t forget that they have separate forums for the UK nations on Rick Steves.

https://www.visitwales.com
https://www.visitscotland.com

I would also add that many cities/towns as well as Counties also have ‘official’ sites. To find these, try a Google search with ‘visit *****’.
Of course, that depends if you already know the actual name of the county/town or city that you are interested in. (When I say ‘official’, I mean run by a local Council/ City Council and not a commercial organisation - although links may be provided to commercial organisations/hotels etc.)

No, I did not find this website while researching our last trip. But, since it was our first trip we knew we were only going to stay in London proper. Now, having visited this website, I figure we will need quite a few more trips to Britain to visit all the cities, towns, and villages mentioned. Oh boy, what a problem to have starting in the new year. I’ll have to begin planning soon. Thanks.

It doesn't look familiar to me so I don't recall using it, and when I try to do a specific search for areas I want to visit next, there were too many clicks to even get close to what I was looking for. In my case I tried Salisbury Cathedral and Bamburgh Castle and on both occasions it took a lot of effort to find what I was looking for. It's a D- from me.

I've used the visitbritain site before and currently (also visitscotland) but really prefer more individual sites. Still they're good to get a general feel for the areas and I do think they have value.

I'm familiar with the site and find it useful. There are the things I seek out and enjoy, but it is easy to be focused on what I know I'm interested in, that it's easy to lose sight of the broader picture and to miss out on experiences I'd otherwise enjoy. So, I'll occasionally check tourism sites like visitbritain to keep aware of events, festivals, and various goings on.

Many thanks for your responses thus far.

For historic monuments that are in the care of the government, you may like these ‘official’ sites:>

https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/
https://cadw.gov.wales
https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/explore-by-region/

Then we have the National Trust = a charity that maintain historic sites for which you usually have to pay an entry fee - or become a member. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit

National Trust Scotland have a separate site:>https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places

There is also Historic Houses. These are family owned castles and stately homes across the country which include places like Blenheim Palace, Burghley House, Castle Howard along with many smaller properties, which are still very much lived in family homes. Annual membership gives free admission to all of them. They are all very different and in the smaller places you may be shown round by one of the family.
