The Hub by Premier Inn in London

Hi Joanne, we stayed at at The Hub near Westminster and found it to be a nice option & location. The breakfast options were handy, and having the St. James Station so close worked well for us. No issues; happy with this decision.

I can't comment on locations, but when I saw you wrote the word "family" I wanted to chime in.

You are aware the the rooms at the "Hub" locations are different than the regular Premier Inns? The rooms at "Hub" are small and cannot accomodate more than two people.

And even just two people is a stretch. I love them when I am traveling solo, but wouldn't dream of staying in one when mu husband is with me or I am traveling with a friend. Way too small of rooms.

You don’t want to study in a Hub as a family unless everyone has their own room.

I have only ever stayed in a Hub for 1 night at a time when I’m doing something like seeing a concert and I’m really not going to be in the room. You will get a decent sleep and shower but a lot of the rooms have no windows, no storage and they are very, very small.

Agree with the comments above. I have stayed in Hubs a couple of times. By myself for overnight stops. Unless you are planning on more than one room for a family booking I would never consider it.

I stayed at the Premier Inn across from the British Library; it was just a few minutes' walk to King's Cross Station and St Pancras International Train Station. The room was good, not huge, but not tiny; nice breakfast and easy check in/out. I liked the location, since I wanted to be close to St Pancras.

Yes, the rooms in regular Premier Inns are considerably larger than those in Hubs. It's an important distinction.

Have you looked at the photos of the Hub rooms? While it can be a good price, it comes at a cost.

The standard rooms are only 11 square meters or under 120 square feet. How does that compare to the smallest bedroom in your home? Would your family be comfortable? Are you okay with climbing over someone to get in and out of bed? Many of the rooms are inside rooms with no windows. And note that some of the bathrooms have glass walls. You'll be living out of your suitcases which are stored under the bed.

We (two adults) stayed in the Hub by Premier Inn Covent Garden, which is just around the corner from Trafalgar Square. We found it small (obv) but so well layed out and designed that it was so worth it to get such a central location. Lights, A/C, TV, etc., all are controlled from a panel by the bed, so no need to move around much. Ensuite toilet/shower. Yes the bed is against the wall, so whoever gets up earlier should sleep furthest from the wall, but other than that, we had no problems. Now we are not the types to sit around our room and read - a hotel is just a bed and a base for our clothes while we are out.

My family is interested in staying at one of the Hub

You don’t mention the composition of your family. Hub rooms accommodate no more than 2 people. Regular Premier Inns have family rooms that can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children aged 15 and under.

I should have mentioned that it is a trip with my extended family comprised of all adults and we will be 1 or 2 people to a room. Sorry for not sharing that detail. Thanks!

No need to apologize. Your question was about location, not size of room. Some responders just went off a tangent. I think you'll enjoy the Hub as it has great locations.

I stay in the Hubs 3 or 4 times a month because of work trips. I won’t stay anywhere else for work but I wouldn’t stay in one if I was sharing. Too small.

I don't believe any responders went off on a tangent. Many of us spoke to the significantly smaller size of Hub rooms, which is a very important fact to be aware of when considering a Hub hotel. (Since we had no evidence whether the OP was aware of that distinction or not, and the OP mentioned family staying at one of these hotels, which without further details, certainly implies multiple people.) I don't see how that's a tangent at all. I know for me it was an effort to save the OP from being severely disappointed when they walked into their Hub hotel room.

As I said, two people in a Hub room would be one too many for me.

I’ve shared hub rooms for 1 night. There’s not room for 2 people to get ready at the same time. The first person gets ready while the other stays in bed, then they go for a coffee so the second person can get up and showered/dressed.

Or does anyone have input on these two options?

I think that makes it perfectly acceptable to comment on the size of the rooms, especially when "family" is mentioned.

My husband and I stayed three nights at the Westminster Abbey Hub location a few years ago and enjoyed it. We were within easy walking distance of St. James Station (I think it was around a block or so) and several of the top attractions. The room was definitely small, but there were plenty of space-saving features that made it feel larger than it actually was. We would stay there again.

As far as location, the two hotels by St James’s Park tube station would both be very convenient for sightseeing. There are not many restaurants in the immediate vicinity (meaning 2 blocks or so) but there are hundreds if you want to walk a bit further or take a short tube ride. This is an excellent location. I have no idea if one is better than the other in terms of rooms; Premier Inns are generally very consistent but I’d just read reviews to see if either has any particular quirks. I’ve only stayed at one Hub (Kings Cross) for one night when my train was canceled and I booked that day. It was fine for one night but my shower was lukewarm and I noticed after the fact that other reviewers noted an issue with hot water.

As far as other locations, the Hub Covent Garden is in the thick of things but I think the price is typically too high. I assume you are booking far in advance and the Hub hotels are lower priced than the standard Premier Inns. I’ve noticed at times that some of the Hub prices will be higher than Premier Inns with equally good locations.

We have stayed at Hub Covent Garden before and are booked to return in December. It's in the area where we want to be, we love the vibe near CG and Trafalgar. In the past four years, we have stayed at pricier hotels in CG, and the biggest factor in this year when airfares are obscene is the cost. Cheap IMO, but it ain't fancy if that's what you want. BUT if you want a decent, quiet, convenient space, definitely recommend HUB.

I don't have knowledge about the two specific Hubs you're considering, but I did stay 3 nights in the Covnent Garden Hub a couple years ago. Like others have said, the rooms are tiny, but well laid out. I was with 2 other friends and we each booked our own room there given the sizes and we're definitely glad we did.

I would just stress the chance that some of your rooms may not have windows. And to make sure everyone in your group is aware of this and is OK with it. I didn't give much thought to my lack of a window initially, but come time to sleep, I found it very claustrophobic. I even went up to the reception desk around midnight to see if they had a room with a window I could move to, no luck. It was 3 very uncomfortable nights for me. And again, I have no problems with windowless rooms by day! I'll be passing an any future Hub stays because of the possible lack of a window, but the room itself was otherwise wonderful!

I stayed at the Hub Padding station. It is across the street from the Metro and Trains entrances and Busses run on the street. So, very convenient for transport and the area is full of restaurants and food shops. Single traveler. Basement room had a window to a courtyard.

Two of my additional reasons for selecting The Hub Paddington were (1) I paid a small fee for an early check-in and (2) Paddington is the station for the Heathrow Express, simplifying my morning departure back to the US.

I was confused reading these comments about extremely small rooms. Looking at the photos on-line, my husband & I had the Superior Double Room. We had a long set of windows, enough room to walk-slide around the bed, a small bathroom and lots of good organized design for holding our suitcases & an open 2-level rod to hang clothes I washed. We stayed there around 4 nights - no issues. We were both very happy with this option….and had fun figuring out the misc. button panel for lights.
