For anyone planning to do Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, please note that The Greyhound Inn at Shap closed a few days ago, having been sold. Their valedictory event seems to have been Sunday Lunch this last Sunday.
There are other places to stay in the village, but the Greyhound (with it's history) would have been mine (and I guess many other's) first choice both for a bed and somewhere to eat.
