The Gate Hotel in London

Anyone stayed at the Gate Hotel, 41 White Church Lane? We have 5 nights in London next May and I'd prefer an apartment type of accommodation; their prices are appealing, about $1400 (and up) for the 5 nights. The Trip Advisor reviews are excellent, but it does seem like we'd be using the tube a good bit, which I don't have any issues with. First time in London so working on acquiring some knowledge of the area as I'm searching for lodging.

Many thanks.

Area is fine.

Has gentrified over the years. Lots of shops, cafes, pubs.

15 minutes on the tube from Aldgate East to Westminister.

20 minute walk to the Tower if London.

Easy stroll to Old Spitafields Market.

Close to the venerable and historic White Hart pub.

If it meets your criteria and you’re okay with the cost, book it.

Great city. Enjoy your first visit.

We stayed there last year. It was clean, comfortable, and convenient.

Two issues, though. Our apartment did not have a kitchen sufficient for food prep. Only a bar sink, microwave, and small fridge. No cooktop. Lots of cookware, dishes, and utensils, but washing up in a bar sink was a pain. An apartment with a dishwasher was significantly more expensive, so be sure you know what facilities you will get if you plan to do more than takeaway meals.

The second issue we had was with staff and communications. We ordered a taxi the night before our departure for an early flight. We were assured it would be waiting for us at 5:30 am. It was not, and the guy on duty in the morning was clueless. There was no record of the request. He was also clueless as to how to even get us a cab. It is not on a street that has cabs streaming by at all hours. So if you need assistance getting transport, be prepared with the cabs app.
