The England Coast Path- Berwick to Bridlington

The new England Coast Path (which will eventually go all round England) is now open all the way from Berwick on Tweed to Bridlington, Yorkshire (including Holy Island/Lindisfarne)- a 245 mile walk along the coast.
The path is in the process of being renamed as the King Charles III coastal path.

When fully open round the UK (scheduled for the end of 2024) the coast path will be the longest continuous long distance walk in the world.

I would love to walk something like that. I read that an average walker could probably walk 10 miles a day, so if I walked this path, I could do it in 12-13 days but would probably allot 15. But maybe I could walk part of it when I'm up there.

Thanks, Stuart!

According to the website, that path will be 2,700 miles. In comparison, the AT is 2,190 (which varies from year to year), the PCT is 2,650, and the CDT is 3,100 miles. Of course the KC3 coastal path will be of a different nature/services/style than the N American wilderness routes. Would be an incredible, beautiful and historic path!

Mardee, I’m with you! Already bookmarked the new path as a potential one for our trip in 2025 hopefully!! Won’t do all of it if course lol, but a bit here and there would be awesome! If you go, I can’t wait to hear about your walk!

We also have most of the route open in Cumbria and also in a large part of Lancashire. In Cumbria it is open from the Scottish Border to Millom then Barrow in Furness to the Lancashire border. There are a few bridge crossings over rivers to build so there are 3 sections currently where you have to nip onto the train at those points. I keep doing the Cumbrian bits as and when they open.

The other ultra long distance route in the UK is the Trans Pennine Trail. That is a very small part of the E8 European walking route from Cork to Turkey. That is said to be 2920 miles. Not sure if that is 2920 walking miles or includes the two sea crossings.

On the continent it crosses the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. Probably impossible to do currently due to the war.

It is one of 12 designated long distance walks across Europe.

Thanks, TC! I will definitely watch that! I want to do some walking along the South West Coast Path and that looks very interesting.
