The Definitive London at Christmas 2026 Guide

We were lucky enough to have time last year in London leading up to Christmas, and the Travel Forum this past year seems to have had a record number of posts by people who did likewise, or are interested in visiting London at Christmastime. The Londonist (you’re all on its e-mail list, right?) has just released its article of what’s happening in London this Christmas, including when streets start their holiday lighting, Pantos (some for families, and some others a bit naughty, only for adults), ice skating (very “London” - but can be a bit of an adrenaline sport there), garden displays, markets and fairs, special events, and more! Who knew that Santa’s North Pole H.Q. is actually in London? But reliable reports say it’s so.

Maybe ”definitive” is a slight overstatement, but not by much. The first link below is for the article from this week, with a list of dates and events. At the bottom of the article are links for more Christmas happenings. Sorry, but there’s a plethora of ads below that, and I couldn’t figure out how to avoid including them. Merry Christmas, and to all, a good trip!

for Pantos (including the Potted Panto that I posted about a few days ago):

Thanks, Cyn. We will be in London mid November into early December and are so looking forward to all the Christmas lights, etc. We last visited London in 2001 during the Christmas season (can’t believe it’s been that long since we visited our favorite city on the planet). We may have to make this a yearly event.

Truly nothing better than Christmas in London.
Pantos, Roast dinners, Santa Runs, Chorales, Christmas Lights, church services, theatre.

Appreciate your sharing intel with the Forum.

I’m glad that this is useful for upcoming trips, and thank you for everyone’s input.

I do have to say that the above links don’t even include the wealth of classical music and dance that are all over London. Or many carols performances and sing-along services. Saint-Martin-in-the Fields has several performances per week (this year is the 300th of the church), there’s more than one Nutcracker ballet in London, and All Souls Langham Place has lots of carols services, replete with an orchestra and a giveaway of mini mince pies afterwards. Those are just scratching the surface.
