I've booked a short stay for next spring at The Buxton on Osborn St. The reviews and the price were great, but I couldn't find much about the relative safety of the neighborhood. Any thoughts on this location for a solo female traveller?

Your hotel is right off Brick Lane. This has been a large southern Asian area but it's changing with the opening of numerous chain hotels. More tourists are flocking there.
I don't see any real issues.

Bear in mind that if you come in early Spring, before BST starts sunset will be just after 6pm. So if you don't plan to be out after dark you will be spending a long time inside your hotel.
There is really no need to be concerned about being out alone after dark in that area.

I'll be there in mid-May, so later spring - but thank you for the reassurance about being out after dark!
