We are considering booking a special morning tour called An Introduction to Ancient Egypt. It appears the guided tour provides about an hour in the Egyptian room prior to the Museum's opening. If anyone went on this tour was it worth the cost and did it have any bearing on your ability to get an audio guide after the tour. It appears the audio guides go rather quickly. If we left the tour at 10:00 would we be waiting a long time for an audio guide? As an fyi, we are visiting next week. Thanks in advance.
For me, the benefit of having an hour in the Egyptian Room before the hordes descend would make the £30 a good value, because I prefer to avoid crowds and will pay accordingly. Your priorities and value-for-money rubric might differ.
Rick’s AudioEurope app has a British Museum tour, so download both the app and that tour onto your phones before leaving home as a backup in case the museum’s own audio guides are all gone at 10 am.
Enjoy your visit!
I searched TripAdvisor and found one review citing the “Introduction to Ancient Egypt” tour:
The reviewer thought the tour was well worth it, and mentioned that the audio guide queue was hopelessly long.
I booked the tour next week for my husband and two boys. I am a fan of anything that avoids the crowds! I'm sitting this one out as it will take all my energy to get all of them dressed, fed and out the hotel door in time for an 8:50 start!
Thanks for the feedback. We purchased tickets for our family, two adults and two teens. I will report back on the experience after or trip. Happy Travels!
