The Bayeux Tapestry 'missing panel' at Westminster Abbey in 2027

Scholars have for a long time believed that there was a missing final panel to the Bayeux Tapestry depicting William the Conqueror's coronation after victory at the Battle of Hastings on Christmas Day 1066. (either lost or never made).

This panel has now been created and will be on show in the Chapter House of Westminster Abbey from 1 May to 30 July 2027.

There will be no extra charge beyond the normal admittance price.

Looks like the new panel is still being produced, so it’s still going to be some time until it’s ready to be displayed. And then, not even Bayeux, France will be showing it before its debut at Westminster Abbey. Additionally, it’s then destined for Falaise Castle, and not the Tapisserie de Bayeux museum in Bayeux, while that’s still closed for renovation.

Quite a coup for Westminster Abbey, while the actual tapestry will still be on exhibit at the British Museum.
