Thanksgiving in London+Day trips? (2)adults, (1)10yo & (1)5yo

Hello, please help me reshuffle our upcoming trip. We arrive LHR Nov-24, depart Dec-01. The original plan was to take Eurostar to Paris upon landing and return to London Nov-27. But it seems that between getting out of LHR, train or even plane travel will be cumbersome, long and overall expensive. Now considering staying in England. What to do? How would you mix it up? We are quick explorers and need to keep things moving otherwise kids get "bored". Thanks in advance!
Edited to add: 1 10yo girl and 1 5yo boy

You could go to York instead upon landing. I think it is very child friendly with a wall to walk, a medieval core, several child friendly museums.

York is an excellent example, whether you go straight there or have 2/3 nights in the middle of a London stay. Wherever you choose I would stick by and large to urban areas - the British countryside is not at it's best in late November and the daylight is very limited.

In Feb 2023 I went to London with my older teen for a week. He also preferred to keep things moving at a much faster pace than I am accustomed to. But he was happy to stay in London and do day trips to places. We even went to Paris for a day. He is older than your kids, but he had very definite opinions about what he wanted to do, so I recommend you ask your kids for feedback too. We also explored special places related to his interests. If they are into Harry Potter, there are a lot of fun things to do in London and you may also consider Oxford. Have a wonderful trip!

P.S. I just reread your post and saw that your son is 5 yrs old, not 15 as I had mistakenly read before. However, I still think staying in London and doing day trips may be a good option. There are also amazing seasonal things to do in London for kids if you prefer not to move around. At this time of year, city escapes are better than the countryside.
